Group 3 Teammates: Ziai, Letitia, Hannah and Vanessa

✍️ Background

Our first assignment is to create a creative homemade switch project using LEDs and other skills we learned from the classes. Before diving into the project, since it is our first time working together, a workflow framework was proposed to ensure efficient work and better collaboration among team members. It was discovered that we have great working chemistry! Everyone always has great ideas to contribute to the project, making the work better.

1: Practice (30 minutes)

2: Brainstorming ideas for this project (20 minutes)

3: Idea sharing and final concept (20 minutes)

4: Prototyping and iteration (240 minutes)

✍️ The Process ****

🕖  01. Practice

Untitled

We practice with a multimeter, wires and breadboards from what we have learned from the class before idea barnstorming as we think it will help us to think of a more feasible solution

🕗 02. Ideation

Then, we spent 20 mins to brainstorm ideas individually before we regroups to pick up ideas

1: Chinese checkers ( Below picture is for reference) for both the octopus and spider. The objective of the game is to turn on all eight lights, assuming that both the octopus and spider have eight legs. Here's how to play: Each leg represents a wire. Use these wires to establish contact with the wires inside their respective holes, acting as switches to power the lights and illuminate them. (Ziai)

2: A storybook with lights that turn on when the book is opened, making it easier for parents to read to their children at bedtime. (Vanessa)

3: Pen with light, once the cap is taken off, the light was on (Vanessa)

4: Light for Christmas (Vanessa)

5: Color palette: Each color of the brush will illuminate a different LED when it taps on the board.(Letitia)

6: The value of lights : Different levels of lights are used to represent different emotions.(Letitia)

7: Don’t judge a book by its cover. The idea behind this concept is to promote non-judgment based on appearance. In this case, the different colors of buttons will not represent their actual colors. For instance, when the white button is pressed, the green LED will illuminate. (Hannah)

8: The city that never sleeps.(Hannah) Different colors of LEDs are used to represent the lights in the subway systems and skylines.

9: Smiley Button Feedback: Each button represents a different emotion (Hannah)

🕙 03. Selected Concept

After discussion, Ziai’s ideas was selected, as we all agree that her idea was fun to make a handmade switch.

🕓 04. Prototype and Iteration

Untitled

We realized that creating a 16-leg game for 2 characters would be complicated and require a lot of effort. So we decided to remove one character and reduce the number of legs.
